NLCS has a highly international perspective that is unique amongst London day schools. We feel it is vital to prepare our students to become global citizens, by providing opportunities for them to be outward-looking, internationally minded and well informed about the world beyond school.
NLCS has offered the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) programme as an alternative to A levels since 2004. Since then, we have had a consistent record of success, and we are one of the highest-achieving IB schools in the world. The IB Diploma resonates with the values of NLCS, and its international dimension affords students the opportunity to be part of a programme which is offered in, and recognised by, almost every country in the world and has contributed to the success of our students in university applications, particularly to Ivy League and Oxbridge institutions. It has a special place in our curriculum and we are recognised as one of the top IB schools in the world.
This global perspective has contributed to the growth of our family of sister schools in South Korea, Dubai and Singapore with more branches planned for the future, benefits pupils and staff through exchange opportunities and internships, and creates an important connection with the economies of the Far East and the Middle East. Each year, pupils from NLCS (UK) participate in exchange visits with our international schools, giving them a unique opportunity to experience a different culture.
Throughout the school year, the schools work together on different projects and events: debates are hosted online to give pupils the chance to engage in debates against their counterparts at our sister schools; and pupils in all three schools jointly work on publications like The Islander and Global. Ensuring that each school is linked is a key aim, creating an NLCS community around the world amongst our students.
Staff at all of our schools are critical in supporting our endeavours. We support the building of links between our schools so that our teachers can help each other develop best practice, grow student focussed initiatives between the schools, and participate in their own exchanges. We also aim to have a professional development programme across all our schools that supports staff in joining us, to start of a career within the NLCS family of schools.
Alongside our close links with NLCS schools overseas, we also offer student and staff exchanges with schools in the USA, Colombia, Australia and Germany, as well as outreach opportunities with schools in Zambia and Madagascar, and many other different trips and partnerships.
Since its foundation in 1850, North London Collegiate School has been committed to providing an accessible, affordable education for girls of ability. To attract able girls and to help those who would otherwise be unable to attend a fee-paying school, we offer bursaries and music scholarships to girls joining the Senior School. The aim of the international school development is to fund a proportion of places at the School.
